Gerald Hendrie: The Complete Works for Organ brings together, for the first time, the composer’s complete surviving output for solo organ across four substantial volumes published by Lyrebird Music. Spanning more than six decades of composition, the collection reveals a musical language of exceptional breadth, uniting contrapuntal ingenuity, virtuosity, liturgical influence and an unmistakably individual expressive voice.
The series includes the monumental Le Tombeau de Marcel Dupré, the three major sonatas, the dazzling Six Concert Studies, the much-loved Four Concert Rags, and a wide range of shorter works extending from the early 1960s to 2023. Throughout, Hendrie draws on plainsong, French liturgical traditions, ragtime, serial procedures and Baroque models, integrating them within a coherent and deeply personal idiom.
Much of this music has not been available in print since the 1990s and appears here in newly revised editions prepared in collaboration with the composer. Representing around eighteen months of editorial work, the collection forms the most comprehensive survey yet published of one of Britain’s most distinctive contemporary voices for the organ.
The set comprises:
LBMP–072: Le Tombeau de Marcel Dupré
LBMP–073: Three Sonatas
LBMP–074: Six Concert Studies; Four Concert Rags
LBMP–075: Specula Petro and other works
Together, these volumes form a major contribution to the contemporary organ repertoire and an important resource for performers, scholars and institutions alike.
