Keyboards have been used in pairs for chamber music since the middle of the sixteenth century, and one of the main traditions of the Baroque comes from the Bach family. Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by his sons Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Christian, created a series of concertos, sonatas, fugues and duets which can be played upon a variety of keyboard instruments, including harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano, even organ. This edition includes these complete works, edited from the earliest sources, which show the changes in musical style over half a century, from the formal counterpoint of the father to the engaging melodic style of his younger sons.

A free download of practise files are available from the appropriate tab. These are provided at modern and baroque pitch. For those wishing to choose a different speed, an appropriate app such as the ABRSM’s Speedshifter is recommended.

The following links access zip files of each individual movement for both prima and seconda parts and are designed to be used as an aid to practising. They are provided at A=440 Hz and A=415 Hz.

Left click on the link and save the file directly to your computer. The files are free of copyright and may be shared freely. They are also virus checked and are safe to download.
