Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerti Grossi achieved unparalleled popularity throughout Europe in the decades following their publication in 1714. Seventy years later, Thomas Billington began publishing keyboard arrangements of the works, which were repeatedly printed by a number of publishing houses over the next half-century. These superb transcriptions of this beautiful music make excellent recital items, but organists will also find liturgical uses for many individual movements.
John O‘Donnell is an Australian organist, harpsichordist, conductor and scholar. He is Monash University Organist, Founder/Director of Ensemble Gombert, keyboard player of the chamber trio Capella Corelli, and Director of Music at All Saints’, East St Kilda. He has performed throughout Europe and North America and has published a number of articles on Bach, an edition of the complete keyboard works of Johann Caspar Kerll, and the first edition of the 1742 version of Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuga (LBMP – 013).
